GERALD "BUD" SAMPSON
Cedar Rapids
Gerald "Bud" Sampson, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2014. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Oct. 11 at Green Glade Cemetery, Farmington.
Survivors include a son, William (Tami) Sampson; granddaughters, Chelsea (Nic) Lemm, Summer Sampson and Toni Whitmore; grandsons, James (Mary) Petsche, Mathew Sampson and Don (Heather) Petsche; and two sisters, AnnMarie and Wanda.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta; daughter, Dianna; three brothers, a sister and his parents.
Bud was born Aug. 19 1931, to Gerald and Blanche VanPatten Sampson in What Cheer, Iowa. He attended Farmington Schools. Bud joined the Navy in 1950 and served aboard the USS Rankin AKA-103 during the Korean War. He also served as Shore Patrol along with his brother, Ed. Bud married Loretta House on Sept. 14, 1951, and they had two children.
Bud retired from the Sheet Metal Union after more than 40 years.
He loved to golf and fish; spending time with his family and friends was his passion.
