Gerald "Jerry" E. Remington, 72, of Altoona, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at the Des Moines VA Health Care System. Services: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the funeral home. Entomb-ment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Lina of Altoona; son, Scott Remington of Altoona; daughter, Deann (Rex) Remington-Schaefer of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Glendon (Elinor) Remington of Marion; aunt, Irene Kula of Marion; and sisters-in-law, Joann Remington of Cedar Rapids and Pat Remington of Brighton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glendon and Leona Remington; brothers, C. Dean, Larry and Glendon Lee Remington; and sister, Glenda Erickson.
Jerry was born Feb. 28, 1942, the son of Glendon and Leona (Kula) Remington, in Anamosa, Iowa. He served with the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963 in the Vietnam War. Jerry graduated from culinary schools in Chicago and Washington state. On Dec. 30, 2007, Jerry married Lina Matusovaite in Las Vegas, Nev. He was an executive chef in numerous large hotels throughout the United States. Jerry enjoyed running his restaurants in Keystone, S.D., Railhead Family Restaurant and Remington's Supper Club. He also owned two VA nursing homes and G & G Cafe in Chariton, Iowa.
Jerry loved fishing, gambling, playing cards, traveling, country music and cooking. He was very intelligent and knowledgeable of world events.
Jerry was a funny guy who lit up the room every time he entered.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
