GERALD "JAKE" PERKINS Cedar Rapids Gerald "Jake" Eugene Perkins, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at his home following a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home, by the Rev. Mike Maynard, with military services by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 788. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday after 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Jake is survived by his former wife and best friend, SueEllen Perkins; two sons, Gary (Tracy) Perkins and Jonathan (Chavela) Perkins, and a daughter, Ericka (Mike) Maynard, all of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren, Brittany, Taylor, Hunter, Connor, Jena and Jacob Perkins and Chance, Jonathan, Jameson and Clay Maynard; one great-granddaughter, Hazelynn Renee Rogan; a brother, David Perkins of Cedar Rapids; five sisters, Susan (Wes) Fry of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Teresa Doyle, Sandra Perkins and Julie (Bill) Ganoe, all of Cedar Rapids, and Diane Hunter of Denver, Colo.; many nieces and nephews; and a very special cat, Wampo. Jake was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Michael Perkins; and two sisters, Margaret (Pug) Goodall and Lynice (Nick) Perkins. Jake was born June 13, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the son of David and Margaret Maudsley Perkins, and was a graduate of Jefferson High School. Jake served in the Army from 1967 to 1969 and attained the rank of Sp5 in the 44th Engineer Battalion in Korea during the Vietnam conflict. He married his best friend, SueEllen Louise Minor, in March 1973. He retired in 2011 as sales manager for Wendling Quarries, where he had worked for over 40 years. Jake loved his family and will be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He enjoyed traveling, golf and camping with his best buddy, Wampo Cat.
