Gerald R. "Jerry" Johnson, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Stonebridge Church. The Rev. Jason Poling will officiate. There also will be a celebration of life service from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Penguins Comedy Club. Burial, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Survivors include his children, Jeffrey (Erin) of Fairfax, Jill (Michael) Gilhooly of Cedar Rapids, James (Tania) of Cedar Rapids and Kelly Roseberry and her fiance, Trent Sigwarth, of Center Point; two granddaughters, Kai and Piper Johnson; and four grandsons, Adam Robbins, Easton Roseberry and Cameron and Andrew Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Virginia.
Jerry was born June 28, 1934, in Iowa City, the son of Charles and Elva Gerber Johnson. He married Marilyn Johnston; they were later divorced. He later married Virginia Kay Kilpatrick on Dec. 7, 1973, in Cedar Rapids. Virginia passed away in 1988.
Jerry was an insurance agent for Prudential and retired from there after many years of service. He later worked at Pip Printing, Guaranty Bank and Penguins Comedy Club.
Jerry was a faithful attendee of Stonebridge Church and proudly served in the Army in Germany.
He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, the Hawkeyes, jazz music, Penguins Comedy Club, and going to his grandchildren's activities.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established in Jerry's name.
