Gerald S. "Jerry" Rayman, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his wife and two daughters on Friday, March 8, 2019. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2019, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil service beginning at
4 p.m. Memorial Mass:
10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour before the service. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Winifred (Butler) Rayman; and two infant siblings, Betty Jane and Richard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lois (Murphy); daughters, Jody (Matt) O'Neill of Overland Park, Kan., and Jill (Matt) Maybanks of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Evelyn and Owen O'Neill and Winnie, Ruby and Millie Maybanks; sister-in law, Kathleen Murphy of South Bend, Ind.; and brothers-in-law, Donny (Maureen) Murphy of Cedar Rapids and John Murphy of Keokuk, Iowa.
Jerry attended St. Patrick's School, Roosevelt Junior High and Jefferson High School.
He retired after 36 years with the Linn County Secondary Road Department in 2000. After retirement, he enjoyed seasonal work in golf course maintenance at the Cedar Rapids Country Club.
He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 909 and also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2272.
He enjoyed old cars, old friends, WMT radio and fresh air. He always was ready to share a story and reminisce over a cold beverage on the deck. He will be missed.
The family wishes to express special thanks to UnityPoint Hospice for their care, love and support in the last months of Jerry's life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family, which will be assigned at a later date.
