GERALD LYPHOUT
Vinton
Gerald "Jerry" Lyphout, 68, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at his home in rural Vinton following a diagnosis with brain cancer in November 2013. Jerry expressed that the last two years were very good with time spent vacationing with family and virtually pain free.
Jerry was born Aug. 7, 1947, in Waterloo, to Henry and Nadine (Florang) Lyphout. His grandparents, Camiel and Pharailde Lyphout, came to America in 1910 aboard the ship Lusitania landing at Ellis Island. They were from Staden, Belgium, and spoke Flemish, which Jerry learned as a young child. Jerry graduated from Van Horne-Benton Community High School in 1965. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, having served six years. Jerry was a hardworking lifelong farmer, having farmed south of Vinton. He also was a district sales manager for Stine Seed Co. for many years. He was united in marriage to Annette Ondler on July 18, 1970.
He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, Iowa Hawkeye sports and most of all, family vacations.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; step-granddaughter, Kilee Daniels; and niece, Robin Lynn Lyphout.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Annette; daughter, Laura (Rocky) Daniels; and granddaughter, Elizabeth, all of Rapid City, S.D.; son, Curtis (Kirsti); and stepgrandchildren, Alashia, Cassandra, Ethan and Ian of Vinton; brother, Lon (Diane) Lyphout; sister, LaVera Wood; sister-in-law, Philena (Norman) Peyton; and many special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the First Baptist Church in Vinton with Pastor David Condry officiating. Private family burial will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy, 315 18th Ave., Hiawatha, IA 52233.
Jerry was greatly loved and will be missed by his family; but since his recent acceptance of the gift of eternal life that Jesus Christ offers, he is now with his Holy, Powerful, Righteous God and what could be better.
