GERALD D. DOOLEY
Cedar Rapids
Gerald D. Dooley, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 12, 2021, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Ludmila Catholic Church by Father Kenneth Glaser. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Monti. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE and after 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Gerald is survived by his wife, the love of his life for the past 47 years, Betty; children, Jerry Dooley and Kathi Ann McCombs; stepchildren, David Bahnsen and Kathleen (Chris) Williams; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Debby Dooley; special cousin, Mike (Maggie) Dooley; sister-in-law, Mariam Dooley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Gerald was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Sac City, Iowa, to Eugene and Delphia (Miller) Dooley. He and Betty returned to Cedar Rapids in May 1999 from Longmont, Colo.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Marion American Legion Post 298. He loved to bowl, play cards and, in his younger years, golf. He also enjoyed following his many beloved sports teams.
In later years, Gerald was blessed with freedom from worries due to four irreplaceable nephews.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Melanie Stahlberg and Hospice of Mercy for the loving care they provided to Gerald.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Mercy and St. Ludmila Catholic Church.
