Gerald Bruce Rohr, of Anamosa, Iowa, passed away at his home on the family farm, just as he wished. He was born on March 6, 1937, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Carl Edward and Ruth Maxine (Windahl) Rohr.
Gerald graduated from Grinnell High School in 1956 and worked for a year at a local newspaper before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1957. He served honorably until 1963, achieving the rank of Petty Officer. He received extensive electronics training during his service, which shaped his lifelong career. Gerald served aboard the USS Ajax, crossing the Pacific and spending three and a half years stationed in Japan. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and a Letter of Commendation for his service.
Following his military service, Gerald worked as an electrical engineer at Rockwell Collins for over 40 years. His career included contributions to many significant projects, including the Apollo lunar landings and the Space Shuttle program.
On October 5, 1963, Gerald married Shirley Mae Bodenhofer in Onslow, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 2002. He later married Rosemary Catherine Owens on August 26, 1995, in Burlington, Iowa. She also preceded him in death, in 2022.
Gerald grew up on a farm near Grinnell and carried a deep love for farming throughout his life. He acquired several farms over the years and remained on the family farm near Anamosa until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruth Rohr; his brother, Gene Max Rohr; and his wives, Shirley and Rosemary.
Gerald is survived by his children: Gary (Rayne) Rohr of Greenwood Village, CO; Richard (Krista) Rohr of Aurora, CO; and Thomas (Jamie) Rohr of Bennett, CO; and his step-children: Thomas (Sandy) Claussen of Anamosa, IA; Marshall Wright of Kansas; and Jenne (Wade) McNaney of Gardner, KS.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jonathan (Amanda) Rohr, Sarah Rohr, Dylan Rohr, and Anneliese Rohr; step-grandchildren: Dezi Smith, Dustin Claussen, Shannon Howell, Ashley Faust, Shelby Claussen, Kendrick Wright, Katy Pinney, Khloe Wright, Keegan Wright, Hollie McNaney, Kali McNaney, and Addie McNaney; great-grandchildren: Sophia and Ava; and step-great-grandchild: Silas, Claira, Owen, and Jacob.
The family extends their deepest thanks to Above and Beyond Hospice of Monticello for their compassionate care and support.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Friday, May 2, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa. Rev. Rodney Bluml will officiate. Burial will be in South Mineral Cemetery, Onslow.
