Georgianna “Georgie” I. Coontz, 90, of Cedar Rapids passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Boyson Heights Senior Living Community. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM following the visitation.
Georgie was born March 22, 1934, in Keystone, Iowa to Victor and Esther (Buch) Kruckenberg. Georgie graduated from Keystone High School in 1951 and married George Coontz in 1952. She was married to George for 69 years until he passed away in 2021 at 96.
She had a passion for baking and decorating cakes for family and friends’ weddings and other special occasions. She was an excellent cook and loved baking cookies, coffee cakes and cream puffs, to name a few. She enjoyed travelling with her husband to Finland, Germany, Russia, Canada and Alaska, as well as every state in the US. Georgie had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by everyone that knew her. She will be missed very much.
Georgie is preceded in death by her husband, George; daughter, Cynthia; her parents and her brother.
She is survived by her son, Donald Coontz, and her daughters, Patricia (Mark) Teply, and Carol (Tom) Welbes. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her five sisters.
