Georgia (Wilson) Thompson, 82, of Barnesville, Minn., formerly of Vinton, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, N.D.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Vinton Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jessica Crane-Munoz officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service time at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Westview Cemetery, La Porte City. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Georgia Wilson was born at home on Dec. 23, 1934, in Cedar Township, Benton County, to George and Charlotte (Baird) Wilson. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton with the Class of 1953.
In 1976, Georgia and her family moved to Pennington, Minn., where they owned and operated Chippewa Pines Resort. Georgia had a love for children and worked as a teacher's aide in the Black Duck, Minn., schools. Her greatest enjoyments came from time spent with her family and her loving companion, Edwin.
Georgia always enjoyed bird-watching, particularly cardinals; she was a fantastic cook and enjoyed traveling and shopping.
She is survived by her five children, Becky (Paul) Herger of Vinton, Steve (Julie) Thompson of Carlisle, Kevin (Lynette) Thompson of Almont, N.D., Scott (Marilyn) Thompson of Devils Lake, N.D., and Jeffrey (Molly) Thompson of Avon, Minn.; her 12 grandchildren; her 24 great-grandchildren; Georgia's loving companion, Edwin Haick; her sisters, Susie Hansen of Vinton, Darlene (Howard) Heaton of Perry and Dona Dales of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Harriette Wilson; and sisters, Dorothy McNamee, Marian Madorin, Evelyn Fleming and Mary McCall; and the father of her five children, Edward Thompson.
