George H. Williams passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, at his home. A private funeral service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required.
George was born July 18, 1934, in Ragland, Ky., the son of George Jasper and Eudora Emiline (Goldsby) Williams. On July 3, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary F. Moore in Texas. George first worked as a sheet metal worker for 25 years. He then operated a fish market and later and restaurant and lounge in Illinois. George then owned and operated a tree service in Cedar Rapids from 1983 until his retirement in 2000. In his free time, George was a very avid card player and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary of Cedar Rapids; son, David Harrison (Sarah) Williams of Shellsburg; daughter, Joyce Ann McClaran of Paducah, Ky.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Kelly Sue Rathje; and brothers, Bill and Ernest Williams.
