GEORGE W. RICHARDSON
1939 – 2014
Keota
George was born on a cold February night at the family home in Keota, Iowa. He had a great childhood, playing with his buddies, fishing and at the age 13, trying his first cigarette. He would like to tell you if you smoke, quit, or better yet, don't start. He smoked for 40+ years and lung cancer has killed him.
Following high school, George left Keota and spent eight years in the Navy as a radioman. He served on the USS Manley, USS Claude Jones, USS Pivot and USS Berkeley. This was followed by a 29-year career with Western Electric and AT&T.
George loved retirement. He spent time doing research on the Richardson and Woods families and "chewing the fat" with anyone he could engage in conversation.
For the past 20 years George was a loving caregiver for his partner, Anna, after she lost almost all of her eyesight. Thank you George.
Preceding George in death were his parents, Glen and Luella Richardson; and brother, John Richardson.
He is survived by his partner, Anna Bassle; sister, Alice Nevin; niece, Laura Nevin; and numerous Richardson, Woods, Alt and Hofer cousins.
He will be buried in the Richardson family plot in Keota later this year. Rest in Peace George.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in George's name to The American Cancer Society. Please call (800) 227-2345.
