George "Pat" Patterson, 88, died Aug. 18, 2014, in Phoenix, Ariz. A graveside service for George Patterson will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Piersol Cemetery, rural North English. A visitation will be held following the graveside service at the North English Community Center.
He was the son of Charles Adam and Addie Margret (Jordan) Patterson. He was born Aug. 7, 1926, in the Green Valley area, east of North English, Iowa. He was married in 1953 to Johanna "Hans" Peters. They had four children, Roy Dean, Mary Lynn, Lois Joyce and Bonnie Sue.
George attended Green Valley country school and North English High School. George served in the U.S. Army (1951-1953) in Germany and briefly in the Korean War. After his service, George worked for many years as an electrician for Collins Radio Company, traveling the world. He then became an independent contractor and home builder in Arizona, in the New River and Black Canyon City area, north of Phoenix. Later, he was the owner and operator of Canyon Service Center in Black Canyon City, Ariz., where he lived for 20 years. In 2011, George moved to Phoenix to reside in a care facility.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Richardson and Dave Bearden; his grandson, Hunter Richardson of Phoenix; his son, Roy; and his daughter, Lois.
George is also survived by his nieces, Janice Gilchrist Giblin, Virginia Gilchrist Kleppinger, Jo Ann Gilchrist, Connie Smith Thomason, Cheerie Smith, Carmen Smith and Cathleen Smith Bryant; and by his nephews, Charles and Curtis Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Mary Lynn; his nephew, Craig Smith; his brothers, Roy, Dean, Galen and Carl; and his sisters, Jean Patterson, Gladys Gilchrist and Arline Smith.
