George Albert Miller, 81, of rural Toddville, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at his home in Toddville. Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving to honor his memory are four sons, Wayne (Pam) Miller of Chillicothe, Ill., and Ed (Sheryl) Miller, Allyn Miller and David (Melody) Miller, all of Alburnett; eight grandchildren, Shawn (Jerry), Jessica (Jonathan), Shane (Laurie), Patti, Allyson, Adam, Kaitlynn and Kippen; four great- grandchildren and a new arrival this summer; two brothers, Archie and Clifford Miller; and three sisters, Mae Keenan, Helen Brown and Harriet Fisher.
George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; a son, Leonard; two grandsons, Thomas and Timothy; and four siblings, Roy, Harry, Raymond and Dorothy.
George Albert Miller was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Strawberry Point, Iowa, the son of Lyle and Pearl Turner Miller. He was married to Mildred Davis on Nov. 11, 1950, in Anamosa. George farmed for 20 years in Linn County. He worked at Quaker Oats for 23 years as a millwright. Farming and family were the centerpieces of his life.
He was a member of the Alburnett United Methodist Church and the Alburnett Lions Club. George loved spending quality time with family, gardening, bicycling, yodeling, square dancing, working on John Deere tractors and guitar playing. His greatest enjoyment was his family. George truly delighted in his grandchildren, always attending their extracurricular events and mentoring them.
He taught his children and grandchildren what was truly important in life. George was a compassionate man who was full of wisdom. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
