George LaVerne Taylor, 88, of Anamosa, IA, formerly of Onslow, IA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, November 2nd.
George was born September 8th, 1936, to Jay and Lena (Eye) Taylor. After graduating high school, George enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was a flight mechanic. George went on to own a DX mechanical shop for 30 years.
In June of 1957, George was united in marriage to Judy Usher. To this marriage four sons were born, Steve, Scott, Darrell, and David. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather taking pride in attending all activities they participated in. George was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan, attending every home Iowa Football game for 20 years with his grandson.
George is survived by his children, Steve (Liz) Taylor, Scott (Lori) Taylor, Darrell (Vicki) Taylor, and David (Nancy) Taylor. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren (with two on the way).
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Francis Taylor.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 23rd at the Onslow Community Center. Family and friends may gather from 3-7 pm, luncheon will be served. The family requests casual attire or your favorite Hawkeye gear.
