George L. Grovert, 81, passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2023.
The visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vinton. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Stephen Preus officiating. A lunch will be served after the service. Burial services will follow lunch at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Newhall.
George was the son of Henry Maurice and Gertrude (Happel) Grovert. He was baptized on Dec. 7, 1941, and confirmed on April 3, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vinton. He graduated from Newhall Consolidated Schools in 1959. He attended the University of Iowa receiving his B.B.A. in economics in 1963 and his M.A. in accounting in 1965. He then went on to teach accounting at Iowa State University.
He fell in love with Pauline Marquardt and moved home to farm. They married on Sept. 14, 1969, at Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. They had two children, Paul and Lori. George had a passion for farming and worked alongside his children in retirement.
George is survived by his wife, Pauline; his son, Paul (Janet) Grovert; his daughter, Lori (Eric) Lang; his grandchildren, Caroline and Morgan Lang, Jenna and Nora Grovert; and his sister, Gretchen (Tom) Randall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Gertrude Grovert; and his brother, Thomas Grovert.
Memorials may be made in his honor to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Vinton Lutheran Home.
