George A. Krakow, 90,
of Marengo, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Marengo, with the Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
A memorial fund has been established.
George is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a sister, Lillian Schmutz (Ernest) of Muscatine; two brothers, Clarence (Kathy) of Belle Plaine and Wayne (Elsie) of Marengo; and nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl, Elmer and Dale; and a sister, Betty Wright.
George Andrew Krakow was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Oxford, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Anna Kahler Krakow. He received his education in the Oxford country schools through eighth grade and worked as a farm hand before entering the U.S. Army for two years. George married Dorothy Lucille Kurth on Aug. 3, 1963, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Marengo. He was co-owner of Krakow Brothers Garage and worked as a mechanic. George and his brother, Elmer, spent countless hours at the shop, building the flag poles that are displayed at the Marengo Cemetery.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Marengo and the Marengo American Legion Post 76. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, travel and also working on cars.
