George Kirby, 75, passed away May 19, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with a prayer service beginning at 4 p.m. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, at St. Matthew Catholic Church.
George is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 56 years; children, Rick (Sandy) and Cindy (Kevin); six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven sisters; four sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Brenda; four brothers; and a sister.
George was born Feb. 22, 1942, in Masonville, Iowa, to Francis and Artazena Kirby. He married Sharon Pirc on Aug. 2, 1960, in Anamosa. George was employed at Wilson's and retired from Klein Tools.
George's final loving act was being an eye donor.
The family would like to thank Mercy ICU, UnityPoint Continual Care and hospice, employees, doctors and pastoral care.
Inurnment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
