George E. Heick, 84, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will be in Downey Cemetery.

George Edward Heick was born July 1, 1931, the son of George and Thelma Morningstar Heick. He was a graduate of Tipton High School in 1949 and attended Iowa State University where he played football. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with the 532nd Airborne Division. On April 22, 1964, he was united in marriage to Doris Vikel in Iowa City.
George had worked for Frazer Equipment in Tipton for a short time and began farming in 1957 in Tipton, later purchasing a farm and moving to West Branch in 1960.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Iowa City and Farm Bureau. George enjoyed playing cards and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Doris, of West Branch; son, Russell (Diane) Heick of West Branch; two grandchildren, Eric and Carl; and sister, Bev Conner of Mediapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leland and Paul.
