George Hamman, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be
1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with Certified Celebrant Paula Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy.
George N. Hamman was born Jan. 3, 1927, to Otto and Myrtle Kyle Hamman in De Soto, Mo. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired after 20 years of service. George was united in marriage to Donna Sherlock on July 28, 1967, in Rock Island, Ill. Together they formerly owned and operated the Home Port for 26 years.
George was a member of the Presbyterian Church, VFW 788, Marine Corps League, Hanford American Legion Post 5, AMVETS Post 6, Fleet Reserve Association Branch 216, Moose Lodge and Elks Club.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Jeannette) Hamman; daughter, Pamela Banke; grandchildren, Tracy (Jim) Tumilty-Tow, Todd (Katie) Tumilty, Jessica Hamman, Tricia (Brad) Tumilty-Baker, Katherine (Bragdon Bonamasso) Hamman, Jennifer (Levi) Banke-Nuss, Michael Hamman, Brian Banke, Christine Hamman, Robert Hamman and Riley Ramirez; and great-grandchildren, Adam Tow, Nicholas Tow, Audrey Tumilty, Tyler Tumilty, Caden Baker, Jaxon Baker and Myla Nuss. Also surviving are his sister, Dorothy of St. Louis, Mo.; and loving nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna Hamman (2003); daughter, Diane Tumilty (1995); son, Robert Hamman (2010); and five siblings.
