George G. VanDee, 89, Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024, at Hiawatha Care Center. He was born July 17, 1934, in Iowa County to George and Sarah (Holderness) VanDee Kerkove.
He was married to Carol (Dede) on June 12, 1955, at the Christian Church, Iowa City. He worked at Wilson/Farmstead Packing for 34 years and then at MCI – World Com for 13. He was a long-time member of the Moose Lodge – 304.
George is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters, Paula (Tom) Stacey, Sherry Collingwood; one son, Kevin (Jean) VanDee, twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also, one sister, Ann Berstler; half-sister, Emily Ramiriz and many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Penny VanDee; son-in-law, Lyle Collingwood; brother, Ambrose VanDee Kerkove; sister, Mildred McGuire and half-sisters, Mary George, Patricia Parsons and Helen Mendenhall.
Visitation for George will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 4 – 7:00 pm at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom and again on Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 10 – 11:00 am at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.
Funeral service for George will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with cremation to follow.
The family would like to thank all of dad’s “girls” at Hiawatha Care Center for your love, support and care.
