George E. Maybanks, 78, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died suddenly in his home on Thursday, June 21, 2018. A memorial Mass will be held
at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 29,
at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. A reception will be held after Mass at the church.
In his life, he was a beloved brother, priest, husband, father and grandfather. He attended Immaculate Conception High School, Loras College, Mount St. Bernard Seminary and received his master's degree in education from the University of Iowa. George spent his life working in service of others and always found the good in all people he encountered. He was an avid Cubs fan.
George is survived by his wife, Susan; his sisters, Jeannie Cambridge, Mary Jane (Paul) Kelley and Sheila (Jerry) Doherty Maybanks; his sons, Matthew (Jill), Nicholas (Genie) and Jonathan (Katie); and seven dearly loved grandchildren, Winnie, Christian, Patrick, Isadora, Ruby, Ivy and Milena. Also surviving are his close friends, Mike Schipfmann, Rodney Kapsalakis and Tom Allie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Earl Maybanks.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family.
