GEORGE E. VON LIENEN
Macon, Mo.
George E. Von Lienen, 88 of Macon, Mo., passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, at Moberly Regional Medical Center in Moberly, Mo., after a long battle with COPD.
George was born Oct. 8, 1932, in Sumner Township, Iowa County, the son of John W. and May Schafbuch Von Lienen. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1950, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy J. Fuller on Oct. 6, 1956. He worked for Coca Cola Bottling Co. in Marengo and Cedar Rapids for more than 20 years. He also worked as maintenance supervisor at Landuits Lake and Quad Cities Camper Sales until his retirement in the late 1990s. George enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. His hobbies were woodworking, growing dahlias and raising bluebirds.
George is survived by his children, John (Barbara) Von Lienen of Jonesboro, Ark., Lee (Joyce) Von Lienen of Indianapolis, Ind., Peggy (Norm) Kaden of Columbia, Mo., and Scott (Margaret) Von Lienen of Longview, Texas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy, in 2013; one sister; and three brothers.
Inurnment will be at the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo. Due to COVID-19 concerns, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be contributed to the Marengo American Legion at P.O. Box 232 Marengo, IA 52301.
