George E. Hoover, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at home passed peacefully into the arms of his savior with
family by his side on Sept. 9, 2021.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A Funeral Service
will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with Pastor
Eric Cleveland officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Garden of Tranquility.
George was born Oct. 29, 1946, to William and Georgia Hoover in West Union, Iowa. He graduated North Fayette HS in 1966. After graduating, he went into the Army from 1966-72 and was stationed in Germany as a chemical engineer and spy photographer. He met the love of his life, Janet, working for Century Cab. He was later employed at Cargill for 30 years before retiring in 2006. On Oct. 18, 1975, he married Janet. They were married for 38 years before Janet passed. He was an avid Nascar racing fan and was a member of the Cargill bowling league. He also enjoyed gambling, bingo and time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Rosalee Gruhn; his son, Jonathan Hoover; his honorary daughter, Jill James; grandchildren, Rebekah (Dawson) Hilbert and Camron Nutt; great-grandchildren, Nova and Bently Hilbert; his sisters-in-law, Patricia Truesdell and D.K. Hoover; and several nieces and nephews; his beloved dogs, Hawkeye, Herky, Samson and Willow; he is also survived by many honorary children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Hoover; brothers, Bill Hoover and Nathan Hammond; parents; and a nephew, Christopher Thompson.
George will be deeply missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
The family wishes to thank Avalon Hospice, especially George's nurses, Matt and Wilford, and chaplain Travis for their exceptional care.
