George Duane Aldrich, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2020, at Keystone Cedars.
George was born the son of George and Ruth Aldrich on Sept. 24, 1932, in Dent, Minn. The family later moved to Perham, Minn., where George was raised and graduated from Perham High School then proudly served two years in the U.S. Army.
George received his MBA from University of Iowa while working as a computer engineer at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he retired in 1994. George married Donna Wright in 1990 in Cedar Rapids.
George is survived by his wife, Donna Aldrich; brother, Bruce Aldrich of Rochester, Minn.; Bruce's children, Katheryn Waydick, St. Francis, Wis., and Jennifer (John) Catttanach, Benton, Mo.; niece, Debbie (Larry) Raleigh, Ogden, Utah; stepchildren, Randy (Debbie) Wright, Mesa Ariz., Peggy (Mike) Beavers, Corydon, Iowa, Stacy (Rick) Welsh, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; many grandchildren and nieces.
George was an avid reader, loved poetry, music, animals, watching Profootball and FOX News on TV. Although George did not have any of his own children, he was adored and loved by many nieces and grandchildren who knew him as Grandpa George or Uncle Duane!
George was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joan McConnell, and her husband Jim; sister-in-law ,Sally Aldrich; and stepson, Murray Wright.
A very special thanks to Keystone Cedars Senior Living of Cedar Rapids, Iowa for taking such good care of George for the last several years and Serene Care Hospice for the last several weeks.
As per George's wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
