George Albert Madoerin, age 91, of Williamsburg, passed away July 8, 2024. He was born April 18, 1933, to Bernhard and Freida (Graf) Madoerin, in their home near Conroy, IA. He attended Trinity Lutheran School, Conroy and graduated from Hilton Consolidated High School, Conroy. He was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving as a Military Police Officer, in the states as well as in Germany. On June 14, 1956, he married Shirley Newkirk. Together, they farmed, raising crops and livestock, and were good stewards of the land. Utilizing soil conservation practices were a high priority. He took extra pride in maintaining his equipment and the homestead where he grew up and lived, until moving to Highland Ridge. George was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving many years as treasurer and trustee. He was also a school board member at Trinity Lutheran School, Conroy, and was a founding board member of Lutheran Interparish School, Williamsburg. He loved the Lord and his family above all else. Time with friends and family was important to him. George and Shirley loved to travel in their RV. They also enjoyed traveling abroad.
George is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Sharon (Dave) Volkens, Williamsburg; son, Doug Madoerin, Luzerne; grandchildren, Shelby (Brad) Dains, Adel; Sarah Madoerin, Seattle, WA; Jacob Madoerin, Marengo; Michael (Sarah) Volkens, Clive; Evan (Megan) Volkens, Marshalltown; great-grandchildren, Kaylin, Avery, Stella, and Elias Dains; Jackson, James, and Ellie Volkens; nephews, Duane (Diane) Madoerin; Gorden (Ethel) Doehrmann; nieces, Carol (Ross Henderson) Madoerin; Helen (Robert) Kozishek. George was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Barney and sister-in-law, Lucille Madoerin; and sister, Helene and brother-in-law, Clarence, Doehrmann. The family is truly grateful for the companionship and care of the residents and staff at the Highland Ridge Senior Living Community.
Celebration Of Life Service will be held 10:30 am on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Memorials in George’s honor may be directed to Camp Courageous or Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy.
