Genevieve Eileen Kucera, 84, of Fairfax, died Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a long illness. Celebration of Life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 27, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will be in Castek Cemetery, rural Swisher. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre.
Genny is survived by her brother, Ken (Sandy) Walser of Discovery Bay, Calif.; her sister, Edith Suchomel of Vinton; her cousin, Alma Shramek of Swisher; and several nieces and nephews, Larry Walser, Don Walser, Pam Michulka, Mike Cook, Connie Copeland, Randi Walser, Dave Wagner, Janice Holdridge, Teresa McGowan, Lisa Pollmeyer and Jon Walser.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon, in 2003; two brothers, LeRay (Leona) Walser and Gerald (Barbara) Walser; her sister, Maxine (Carl) Wagner; and her brother-in-law, Frank Suchomel.
Genevieve was born June 3, 1932, in Iowa City, the daughter of Earl and Mabel (Krouse) Walser. She married Vernon Kucera on Oct. 3, 1953, in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Franklin High School. Genny and Vernon farmed for many years in the Fairfax area.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
