Genevieve “Geegee” Zimmerman, 94, died Monday, April 21, 2025 at Highland Ridge in Williamsburg.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM, Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at St. Peter’s Church in Cosgrove. Visitation will be Monday from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Church, where a Rosary and Vigil Service will be held at 3:30 PM. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Geegee was born January 17, 1931 in Iowa City, the daughter of Lawrence and Helena (Kessler) Rohret. She was a graduate of Cosgrove High School and received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Iowa.

On June 14, 1950 Geegee married Lowell Zimmerman in Cosgrove. For many years they lived in Parnell and Oxford.

Geegee taught second and third grade at Clear Creek Community Schools and fifth grade at Amana for many years.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Parnell and St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cosgrove. She also volunteered at UIHC.

Geegee is survived by her children, Patrick (Patricia) Zimmerman of Iowa City, William (Mashell) Zimmerman of Parnell, Richard (Joellen) Zimmerman of Parnell, Terrence (Kathy) Zimmerman of Oxford, James (Marissa) Zimmerman of Solon, and Marisue (Jim) Poock of Parnell; daughter-in-law. Kathleen Zimmerman of Cambridge, IA; 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Katie Hughes.

Geegee was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Michael; and siblings, Thomas Rohret, Helen Houseal, and an infant sister.
