Geneva Lucille Von Ahsen died Friday, July 21, 2017, at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 92 years.
Geneva was born Nov. 9, 1924, on a farm east of Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ida (Schmidt) Zuber. She attended St. John's Lutheran School near Homestead. On Nov. 15, 1945, Geneva was united in marriage to Gilbert Henry Von Ahsen at St. John's Lutheran Church, Homestead. She worked at Landmark for 21 years and hand in hand with Gilbert on the farm.
Geneva was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iburg Poulsen VFW Post 8797 Auxiliary and Burg Bowl Bowling League. She played softball in Conroy. She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, needlepoint, decorating cakes, baking and gardening, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
She is survived by a son, Gerald Von Ahsen of Williamsburg; a daughter, Gail Ruzeck of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Tara (Jason) Stockton, Miranda (fiance Shane Dietze) Von Ahsen, Alex Von Ahsen and Mikeal Von Ahsen; and seven great-grandchildren, Aaron, Ashlyn, Elle, Cole, Delaney, Kaine and Grayson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Edna Maas, Emma Newkirk and Lora Folkmann; a brother, Bill Zuber; and a son-in-law, Joe Ruzeck.
Celebration of Life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. The Rev. Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg.
Memorials are for Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Interparish School.
