Gene Roy Bell, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at West Ridge Care Center. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Lori Bell of Cedar Rapids; son, Dave Bell; four grandchildren, Cameron (Sarah) Matheny, Nicole Matheny, Stephanie Steele and Whitney Bell; two great-grandchildren, Max and Griffin Matheny; and siblings, Margaret Bloomquist and Joyce Hartzler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; two infant children; and siblings, Elaine Backwalter, Marie Malichky, Bertha Ehrenberger and Arden Bell.
Gene was born on April 22, 1937, at his home in Washington county, the son of Alva and Hazel Maple Bell. Gene married Patricia Delany on Dec. 27, 1958, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. He worked as a machinist at FMC and Rockwell Collins.
Gene always had a very strong work ethic. However, when he wasn’t working he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading the newspaper, solving Sudoku puzzles and people watching. He was also an avid Cubs fan and took many bus trips with Lori to see them play. Lastly, he would never miss an opportunity to see his grandkids.
