Gene Myron Denniston, 92, of Onslow, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2018, at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa.
Visitation service will be held at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa, on Saturday, June 9, 2018, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., with a memorial service at 4 p.m. and a luncheon to follow. Burial will be held at the Wyoming Cemetery. Lahey and Dawson Funeral Services will be assisting the
family at this time.
Gene was born July 15, 1925, to Raymond and Mabel (Stingley) Denniston on a farm in Jackson County. He graduated from Wyoming High School in 1942. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lorraine Moenk, on March 17, 1944, at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. After their marriage, Gene farmed until his retirement. He enjoyed baseball, playing cards, gardening, gambling at Las Vegas and local casinos and time with his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who knew him as "Grandpa Whistle Britches." He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming.
Left behind to cherish his memories and humor are his wife, Lorraine; son, Chester; daughter, Carol (Jim) Eggert; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Barb Denniston; one sister, Bonnie Bauer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
