Gene Aylsworth, 77, of Wadena, died peacefully Tuesday morning, Aug. 16, 2016, at his home with his family at his side. Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at St. John Lutheran Church, Arlington, with Pastor Margaret Yackel-Juleen officiating. Memorial visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Arlington, and one hour before the service Monday at the church. Inurnment: Wadena Cemetery.

Francis Eugene Aylsworth was born June 16, 1939, in Wadena, Iowa, the son of Albert Chauncey and Hazel Dorothy (Chapman) Aylsworth. He was baptized on Oct. 16, 1949, at the Wadena Presbyterian Church. Gene graduated from Wadena High School with the class of 1957 and continued his education at Upper Iowa University in Fayette for one year. Gene began his work career with his father in the family house-moving business during his teenage years. He later went to work with his dad full time. After Bert's retirement, Gene and his brothers purchased the business, Aylsworth Brothers House Movers. Gene retired in 2003 after many active years in the family business.
Gene married Gloria Ann Eckheart on Nov. 14, 1970, at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington. Gene enjoyed playing softball, mushroom hunting, bass fishing on the Volga River and cheering on the Chicago Cubs. In his retirement, Gene enjoyed his cow/calf herd on the farm.
Gene is survived by his wife, Gloria Aylsworth of Wadena; two sons, Ronald (Beth) Aylsworth and Gregory Aylsworth, both of Wadena; daughter, Patricia (Dennis) Whittle of Volga; nine grandchildren, Ashley Aylsworth, Austin Aylsworth, Taylor Whittle, Thomas Whittle, Danielle Whittle, Jamy Schumacher, Quinn Heidtbrink, Sarah Grupen and Tyler Grupen; four great-grandchildren, Sterling Schumacher, Mia Heidtbrink, Rumi Schumacher and Milo Begeny; two brothers, Douglas (Rhonda) Aylsworth and David (Rebecca) Aylsworth, both of Wadena; a sister, Gloria (Patrick) Ashby of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Aylsworth, on Feb. 9, 1969; and a daughter, Dorothy Jeanne Aylsworth, on May 9, 2016.
