Gelia "Judy" (Haynes)

Huls, 87, of Manchester, died Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 13, at First Lutheran Church, Manchester, with visitation one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.

Gelia is survived by her children, Grailing Huls of Manchester and Robin (Jim) Gudenkauf of Masonville; two grandchildren, Kaitlin Gudenkauf of Hiawatha and Nathan Gudenkauf of Masonville; a sister-in-law, Edna Haynes Hammerand; and many nieces and nephews.

Gelia was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Elsie; her husband, Marland, on April 17, 2013; two sisters, Alma Grimm and Genevieve LeFlore; and five brothers, Harlan "Hi," Warren, Victor, Clifford and Merlin Haynes.

Gelia was born April 4, 1929, on a farm near Delhi, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Elsie (Behning) Haynes. She graduated from Manchester High School in 1947. During high school, up until the time of her marriage, she worked at Janette's Gift Shop. Gelia married Marland F. Huls on Sept. 26, 1950. They spent most of their life farming in Milo Township. Gelia was involved in many community and church organizations. She was very active in altar and guild society, quilting and teaching Sunday school at church. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Manchester.

Her family and grandchildren were a very important part of her life. The summer always was a great time when nieces and nephews and extended family would come and spend time on the farm. Gelia was well known for her famous cookies, which were hidden at times by those who received them as a gift.
