Geiger, Mildred Louise
Mildred Louise Geiger, 86, of Lone Tree, formerly of Vinton, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at her home in Lone Tree following a sudden illness. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Private committal services will be held at the Urbana Cemetery. Friends may register at the funeral home from noon until service time.
Mildred was born May 19, 1926, in Greenacres, Fla., to John and Mable (Brubaker) Norman. She married Orville Manley, who preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1957. On Oct. 12, 1959, she married Clifford H. Geiger in Iowa City. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1992. Mildred graduated from high school and attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school at Eldon for four years and then moved to Newton, where she taught for two more years. Mildred then stopped teaching to become a lifelong farmwife and homemaker. While living in Vinton, Mildred was employed as a clerk at the Dollar Store from 1995 to 2009.
She is survived by her sons, Donald (Louise) Manley of Texas, Joe (Barb) Geiger of Lone Tree and Jeff (LaDonna) Geiger of Vinton; her daughters, Linda (Mike) Dales of Des Moines and Susan (Edward) Mearidan of Montana; stepson, Terry (Shirley) Geiger of Vinton; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her sister, Janice Becker of Shelby.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her two husbands; two brothers, Jim and Tom Norman; and three stepchildren, Lyle and Larry Geiger and Lyla Mae Wubbena.
A memorial fund has been established.
