Geiger, Alberta Achenbach
Alberta Achenbach Geiger, 85, a resident of Cape Coral, Fla., for the last seven years, formerly of Longboat Key, Fla. and Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, in Cape Coral. She was born Alberta Helen Achenbach on Oct. 3, 1927, in Cedar County.
Alberta was of the Methodist faith. She studied Dietetics at the University of Iowa, where she met and married Robert Charles Geiger, a fellow student enrolled in the University's School of Dentistry. After two years at Scott Air Force Base, Alberta and Robert moved to Cedar Rapids, where Alberta became a homemaker and enjoyed playing golf, bridge, sewing and cooking. She loved sailing, boating and traveling, spending summers in Okoboji, Iowa, and winters in Longboat Key. Alberta was an avid reader and a skilled seamstress, she enjoyed creating beautiful wardrobes and interior furnishings with needle and thread. Most of all, she loved spending time with her extended family.
She is survived by her loving husband of more than 62 years, Dr. Robert C. Geigerof Cape Coral; three children, Douglas C. Geiger, of New York, N.Y., Angela H. Geiger and her husband, John of Naples, Fla. and Virginia G. Koogler and her husband, Don, also of Cape Coral; four sisters, Dorothy Swanson and her husband, Don of Colorado, Eunice Eide and her husband, Everett, of Wisconsin, Marjorie Fox and her husband, Glen of Colorado and Florence Fansher and her husband, Mike, of Missouri; her brother, Alex Achenbach and his wife, Linda of Iowa; four grandchildren, Matthew Geiger, Natalie Hamer, Daniel Koogler and Robert Hamer; as well as her daughter-in-law, Sara Shaw of New Orleans, La.; and dear friend, Edward Hamer, of Fort Myers, Fla.
Alberta was preceded in death by her son, Gary Earl Geiger; a sister, Audrey Achenbach Nevius; and her parents.
Memorial services will be held at a later date, to be announced.
