Gee, Eleanor Louise (McCulley)
Eleanor Louise (McCulley) Gee passed away peacefully early Easter morning, April 8, 2012, at the Solon Nursing Care Center after her 90th birthday last month.
Louise, as most knew her, was born to Everett and Bette (Sewell) McCulley in Blue Mound, Ill., on March 3, 1922. She spent her youth in central Illinois with parents, two sisters and one brother. She married John W. Gee on Sept. 25, 1942, in Waycross, Ga. She spent a few years at Army Air Corps bases in Georgia and Florida while husband John served in Africa, Sicily and Italy. After the war they moved back to central Illinois, spending more than 50 years in Decatur and raising their three children.
Louise was a homemaker, worked at Zimmerman's Fabrics and worked at Linn & Scruggs Department Store teaching knitting. She also enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, tatting, flowers and birds. Louise and John volunteered in many ways through St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Dove, Meals on Wheels and St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, Ill.
She was preceded in death by husband, John William Gee on May 25, 2000; parents, Leslie Everett McCulley and Bethana E. (Sewell) McCulley; sisters, Geneva Ufert (Dan and Dorothy Lust; brother, Cecil “Butch” McCulley (Betty); and granddaughter, Sarah Gee.
She is survived by children, Jacqueline Lou Evans (Ron), Nancy Jane Magill (H. Lynn) and John Kent Gee (Avis); grandchildren, Julie Gurski (Greg), Amy Becker, Brian Sharp (fiancee Dawn), Aaron Magill, D. Eric Magill (Theresa), Amelia Gee (fiance Matt) and Jennifer Gee; and great-grandchildren, Madison, Connor and Alec Gurski, C.J. and Evan Becker, Faith Sharp, Aurora Michaud-Magill and Garrett, Bailey, Logan and Maggie Magill.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, April 13, followed by the funeral at 1:30 p.m. at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, 2827 N. Oakland St., Decatur, IL 62526. She will be interred with husband John in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, Ill.
Memorials will be directed to Dove Inc., 788 E. Clay St., Decatur, IL 62521.
