Gearhart, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Gearhart, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, in Living Center West. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.
Survivors include her children, Dave and Bev Gearhart of Cedar Rapids, Doug and Laurie Gearhart of Marietta, Ga. and Lori Gearhart of Cedar Rapids; her siblings, Robert Heaverlo, Richard and Jean Heaverlo and Agnes Darrow, all of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Mandy and Rod Manson of Solon, Christina and Chad Graham of Cedar Rapids, Jolene and Ryan Norton of Cedar Rapids, Mike and Tiffany Gearhart of Marietta, Ga., Tom Gearhart of Charlotte, N.C., Kathy Gearhart of Marietta, Ga. and Sarah Gearhart of Marietta, Ga.; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen Gearhart; her brothers, Clarence Heaverlo Jr., Fran Heaverlo and Vernon Heaverlo; her sisters, Marie Cassel, Gen Megan and Shirley Fultz; and her grandson, Patrick Gearhart.
Betty was born April 10, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Agnes Hlina Heaverlo. She married Allen J. Gearhart on Aug. 10, 1952, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Betty was a life time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She crocheted baby blankets, loved jigsaw puzzles, working in the yard and spending time with her grandchildren. Betty was a great cook and baker. She will always be known for her famous homemade chicken and noodles and homemade salami.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandparent. She was a friend to all and will be greatly missed.
