Gayla Rae Dvorak, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center. Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 26th, 2025, at the Norway Legion at 210 South St in Norway, IA from 12:00-4:00. Brosh Chapel and the Avacentre are assisting the family at this time.
Please wear your favorite Hawkeye or Cubs attire in celebration of Gayla's love for her favorite teams.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Gayla was a loving presence in the lives of all who knew her. Her infectious laugh, love of sports, and passion for life inspired those around her. Gayla's love and warmth radiated through every aspect of her life, whether she was dancing to her favorite oldies, cheering on the Cubs or Hawkeyes, baking treats for loved ones, working on crosswords and puzzles, or cozying up watching CSI. Gayla will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Gayla was born on August 5, 1945, in Norway, IA, the daughter of Theresa "Tessie" (Brecht) and Dwayne Primrose. She graduated from Norway High School in 1964.
Gayla was united in marriage to Roger Dvorak on October 25,1969 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Newhall, IA. Together they had 4 children. Throughout her career, Gayla held various roles, including positions at Pinicon Ford and United Fire and Casualty.
Gayla devoted herself to her children, attending their activities and events with unwavering support. Her love for her grandchildren was just as profound, as she cheered them on at the games, celebrated their milestones, and showered them with love and care.
Gayla is survived by her loving husband, Roger Dvorak of almost 56 years; Son Darren Dvorak; and Daughters Dawn Carrothers (T.J), Debbie Dvorak (Aaron Salandro) and Denise Younke (Matt Robinson). Gayla is also survived by several grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dwayne and Theresa Primrose; sisters Rozella Holland and Betty Newton; and nephews Keith Newton and Duce Holland.
