Gatto, Mae Edna
Mae Edna Gatto, 75, of Cedar Village Apartments, died Sept. 16, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Cecil Ballard. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday after 9 a.m.
Mae is survived by two daughters, Donna (John) Reding of Mason City and Bonnie (Cad) Anfinson of Cedar Rapids; four sons, Steve, Jim, Paul and Mike Gatto, all of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five brothers and sisters, Alice Johnson, Ralph (Carol) Hilmer, Adeline Rompot, Walter Hilmer and Marvin (Betty) Hilmer;
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; two sons, Frank and Vincent; parents; two granddaughters, Toni Gatto and Sarah Reding; two brothers and one sister.
Mae was born May 14, 1934, in Winneshiek County, the daughter of Arthur and Edna Hesse Hilmer. She married Robert Gatto on May 27, 1952, in Marion. She worked at Johnny's Parkway for 25 years. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Marion.
Mae's family would like to thank the kind staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their wonderful care.
Mae's quiet and gentle spirit will be missed.
