Gassmann, Marvin R.
Marvin R. Gassmann, 76, of New Vienna, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at his daughter's home in Earlville, Iowa.
Friends may call from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 5 p.m., the Dyersville Fire Department will gather at 6 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with burial in St. Paul Cemetery, Worthington. Officiating will be the Rev. John O'Connor.
Marv was born on Jan. 13, 1934, in Holy Cross, the son of Aloysious and Leonette (Kluesner) Gassmann. He married Patricia Hogan on Jan. 31, 1953, in Worthington, Iowa. Together they farmed and raised their family just south of New Vienna. Marv owned and operated Gassmann Realty for over 30 years, and also worked for Mormons Feeds and Archer Oil. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree and past Grand Knight.
Survivors include his 12 children, Steve (Betty) of Indianola, Mickey (Mark) Wagner of Earlville, Wayne (Geralyn) of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jackie (Mike) Milz of Dyersville, Jim (Wendy) of Dyersville, Pam (Karl) Ertl of Estes Park, Colo., Joan (Chad) Colston of Cedar Rapids, Bill (Tammy) of Indianola, Marvin Jr. of Holy Cross, Joseph (Yessica) of Winterset, Kevin (Amy) of Holy Cross, and Tom “T.J.” (Nikki) of Estes Park, Colo., 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nine siblings, Lyle Gassmann of Dubuque, Betty Gotto of Bankston, Gladys Knepper of Dyersville, Mary Agnes (James) Schnier of Bellevue, Connie Lueck of Mineral Point, Wis., LeRoy (Marge) Gassmann of Asbury, Robert (Bev) Gassmann of Opelousas, La., Kenneth Gassmann of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Gerald Gassmann of Davenport; brothers-in-law, Robert Fitzgerald of Dyersville, James Hogan of Arizona, and Robert Hogan of Worthington; and sisters-in-law, Betty Hermsen Gassmann of Dyersville, Donna Wolfe of Worthington, and Joyce Digmann of Platteville, Wis.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his parents; parents-in-law, Ray and Marie Hogan; two sisters, Sylvia Fitzgerald and Eileen Besler; and a brother, John Gassmann.
Marvin's wishes are that memorial contributions be given to St. Boniface Parish of New Vienna.
