Gassmann, Bernice C.
Bernice C. Gassmann, 86, of Cascade, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Dennis Quint.
Bernice was born on Oct. 24, 1925, in Petersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Thole) Loesche. She married Harold M. Gassmann on Aug. 12, 1946, in Petersburg. Together they farmed near Edgewood, and later went into the restaurant business for 35 years. She was an avid Cubs fan.
Survivors include her five children, Sharon (Dave) Trumm of Viola, Dave Gassmann of Monticello, Wayne (Mary) Gassmann of Cascade, Alan Gassmann of Anamosa, and Pam (Steve) Lynch of Cascade; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Lawrence Loesche of Arizona, Sylvester “Red” (Alma) Loesche of Dyersville and Delores Lammers of Dyersville; and sisters-in-law, Rita Gassmann of Dyersville and Bernice “Bernie” Gassmann of Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold in 2009; one grandson, Jared Gassmann; a granddaughter, Morgan Gassmann; siblings, Andy (Melanie) Loesche and Laurine (Clarence) Kruse; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Maxine Loesche, Paul Lammers, Francis, Aloysius, Cyril, Cletus, Arnold and Clarence Gassmann, Mathilda Ries, Germaine Heying, Cecelia Hennen and Leora Seymour.
