Gassman, Berneice R.
Berneice R. Gassman, 82, of Bernard, died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade. Due to a scheduling conflict funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church, Fillmore, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd., Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.
She was born May 2, 1927, in Rickardsville, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Rose (Meyer) Stoffel. She married Edward Gassman on May 18, 1948, and together they farmed in the Bernard area until their retirement. She was a member of Sacred Heart Fillmore Altar and Rosary Society, and was a 4H leader for Fillmore. She loved to do crafts and crochet.
She is survived by her six children, Dave (Joanne) Gassman of Bernard, Tom Gassman of Bernard, Jim Gassman of Dubuque, Ron "Zip" (special friend Margie Bradley) Gassman of Bernard, Kevin Gassman of Bernard and Rosanne (Jerry) Osweiler of Robins; son-in-law, Scott Sumner of Minneapolis; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis Stoffel of Key West, Iowa; two sisters, Delores Gassman of Dubuque and Shirley Schauer of East Dubuque, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Orville Ludwig of Dubuque; and a sister-in-law, Rosemary Gassman of Platteville, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; a daughter, Diane; granddaughter, Traci; daughters-in-law, Grace Gassman and Audrey Kinney; and a sister, Marguerite.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Shady Rest Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for all the care and kindness they gave to Berneice.
