Gasper J. Minor, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include a daughter, Gwen (Rocky) Gano of Cedar Rapids; a son, Douglas (Carrie) of Walford; two grandchildren, Katie (Dan) Gogel of Cedar Rapids and Spencer Minor of Walford; and a great-grandson, Duke "D.J."
He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and four sisters.
Gasper was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Oskaloosa, the son of John and Evie Adkins Minor. He married Fern Cline on Jan. 15, 1955, in Oskaloosa. Fern passed away in March 2014.
Gasper worked at Cherry Burrell for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. He proudly served with the First Calvary Division during the Korean War and received the Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 788, the DAV, and had the privilege of going to Washington, D.C., on an Honor Flight in 2013, with his son, Doug.
Gasper enjoyed baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He was a very social person who never met a stranger. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to Cedar Rapids Honor Flights.
