GARY LEE MAROVETS
Raymond
Gary Lee Marovets, 69, of Raymond, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital's Ed and Joan Hemphill hospice unit in Cedar Rapids.
Gary Lee Marovets was born June 22, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Leo Francis Marovets and Myrtle (Frankhauser) Marovets. He graduated from East High School and entered the U.S. Marine Corps. Gary served in Okinawa during the Vietnam conflict. He met his wife, Trudy (Reisner), on Dec. 25, 1970, and they were married May 22, 1971. On Aug. 10, 1972, they were blessed with their first child, Daniel Lee Marovets, followed by the birth of their beautiful daughter, Sandra Ann Marie Christensen, on April 25, 1974.
Gary and Trudy enjoyed a wonderful, adventurous, whirlwind life together, having moved over 28 times, traveling extensively and pursuing their careers…but faith and family always prevailed as most important. Gary also had a passion for boating and enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and many friends, and his dog, Bayli. He worked as a fixed operations director in the automotive industry and as an independent consultant.
Gary was a member of Waterloo First United Methodist Church, where visitation will take place on Monday, Oct. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. and services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24.
Gary is survived by his wife, Trudy; son, Daniel; daughter, Sandra; five brothers and sisters, Jimmy (Diane) Marovets, Bonnie Adams, Nancy Wyant, Robert Marovets and Dorothy Thomas; and three grandchildren, Brady Christensen, Hope Christensen and Mason Marovets.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Peggy.
Gary will be remembered for his vivacious laugh, optimism and for the tough love advice and support he gave his family, which will give them the courage to carry on.
Memorials may be directed to the family and will be contributed to Gary's favorite charities.
Arrangements are with Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories in Waterloo.
