Gary E. Honn, 60, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 23, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Murdoch Certified Celebrant Diane Thovson. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Linwood Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn of Cedar Rapids; children, Rhonda (Darryl) Swift of High Springs, Fla., and Gary (Shannon) Honn of Fairfax; grandchildren, Courtney Jo, Courtney Lynn, Danielle, Taylor and Madison; great-grandchild, Brayden; his companion yorkie, Bella; siblings, Edward (Sue) Pulda, Linda (Bev) Chesmore, Judy Kaufman and Patty (Robin) Honn; and many special nieces, nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary was born Feb. 14, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Kenneth and Pauline (Bittle) Honn. He attended school in Cedar Rapids, then served in the United States Marines from 1973 to 1977. On April 11, 1975, he married JoAnn Cihla in Rock Island, Ill. He worked at Cryovac, retiring after 33 years.
Gary enjoyed going to Wildside Tattoo, J.C. Cycles, riding his Harley, boat house at Ellis Harbor, fishing, picnics, bonfires at night, camping and classic cars. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
