Gary Duane Oliphant, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors.
Gary was born on October 29, 1949, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Vance and Lois (Phelps) Oliphant. After he graduated from Marion High School, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. From 1971 to 1973, Gary served off the coast of Vietnam on the ship, USS Navasota as a Boiler Technician. He was honorably discharged from the Navy Reserves in 1976. He enjoyed watching The Three Stooges, nature, being outdoors, bird watching, and spending time with his grandchildren. Gary will be missed dearly by those closest to him.
He is survived by a daughter, Carrie (Michael) Enos of Marion, Iowa; a brother, Dennis (Colleen) Oliphant of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Maria, Morgan, Christian, and Mya; and extended loving family members.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a spouse, Marguerite and a brother, Dale.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Linn County Veteran Affairs or the SAINT Rescue & Adoption Center (saintiowa.org).
