GARY R. BRECHT Norway Gary "Cooper" Brecht, 75, of Liberty, Mo., passed away from cancer on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015. He was born Jan. 10, 1940, in Iowa County, Iowa, and graduated from Norway High School. He was united in marriage to Joy Ann Elliott on Feb. 19, 1966, at St. Michael's Church in Norway. He spent his 41-year career with Nissen/Universal, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his wife of 49-plus years, Joy Brecht; children, Julie Jasumback (John), Jill Malone (Nat Holcomb) and Jeff Brecht (Erma); four grandchildren; a great-grandson; four siblings, Garlyn Kimm, Beth Haage (Rich), Bill Brecht (Mary) and Terry Brecht (Linda); sister-in-law, Bernice Brecht; as well as many nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Eldred and Lila (Emanuel) Brecht; and siblings, Donna, Richard, John and Eldon Brecht. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Norway. Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at St. Michael's Church. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Michael's Kitchen Fund.
