Gary W. Bowen, 68, of Littleton, Colo., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at Porter Hospice Residence, Centennial, Colo. Services were held at Horan & McConaty, Lakewood, Colo. Burial: Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colo.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Bowen; daughter and son-in-law, Briana L. (Bowen) and Lynndell Epp, and grandchildren, Bracken and Braylee Epp, of Littleton, Colo; brother, Mike (Liz) Bowen; sister, Janice Jacoby; father-in-law, Douglas Shaheen; sisters-in-law, Connie Bowler and Jan (Scott) Overland; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Bowen; father, Robert Bowen; sister, Kathy Bowen; and mother-in-law, Mamie Shaheen.
Gary was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Lorraine and Robert Bowen. He was a long-standing member of the Grenadiers Drum & Bugle Corps. He graduated from Jefferson High School. Gary was drafted into the Army after high school and was stationed at Fort McPherson in Georgia. Upon his discharge, he married Cathy Shaheen. Gary was a world-renowned master taxidermist, taxidermy product developer, inventor and patent holder. He was inducted into the Iowa Taxidermy Association Hall of Fame in 1999.
A Celebration of Life will be from 5 to 9 p.m. July 2 at Lowe Park in Marion in the Oaks room. Friends and family are invited to attend.
