Garthwaite, Elgie W.
Elgie W. Garthwaite, 62, of Marion, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at home. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion by the Rev. Howard Chapman. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; three daughters, Jennifer (Mike) McLoud of Cedar Rapids, Amy Grizzell of Marion and Amber Garthwaite of Marion; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Duane (Linda) Garthwaite and Gary (Betty) Garthwaite of Marion; a sister, Mary Weber (Vern Lahr) of Marion; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Elgie was born April 22, 1950, the son of Elgie C. and Agnes (Bremer) Garthwaite in Prairie du Chein, Wis. He graduated from Bloomington High School in Bloomington, Wis. in 1968. On Feb. 6, 1993, he married Mary Pepper. Elgie worked as a machinist at P&H and Goss. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and woodworking.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Elgie.
