Garry Steven Barry, 69, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at his home Friday evening, Sept. 9, 2022. A celebration of Garry’s life will be at noon, Saturday, Sept. 17, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Garry is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Christopher (Amanda) Barry, Cedar Rapids, and Kyle (fiancée Mallory Young) Barry, Ames; granddaughters, Lacie and Aliyana; and siblings, Barbara McCoy, Susan Grajek and George Barry. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Rachel Bowers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bonnie Worny; and brother, Glenn Barry.

Garry was born March 9, 1953, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of George and Mary (Repaja) Barry. He moved to Cedar Rapids from Franksville, Wis., in 1979. Garry married Nancy J. Weyhgandt on April 26, 1986, in Bellevue, Iowa.

Garry always enjoyed working with people. He worked at Discovery Living, Goodwill as a job coach, taught driver’s education and was a substitute teacher. His passion was art. He cartooned, painted, drew and doodled. His awesome sense of humor got us through many of life’s challenges. He could make friends with just about anybody with his sense of humor and wise jokes.

Garry was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed watching old Westerns, was a Green Bay Packers fan and loved to go fishing.

Military honors will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 788 following the services.

Monetary donations will be given in Garry’s memory to Veterans Casting Away Disabilities, a fishing trip he dearly enjoyed.
